Girls' Generation Dominates Gaon Charts

Girls' Generation (Photo by www.newsen.com)MANILA, Philippines - Nine-member Girls' Generation dominated Korea's Gaon charts for January, copping No. 1 in album sales, singles, streaming and downloads.



Gaon, similar to the Billboard chart, released the latest rankings for January which showed the girls' "I Got A Boy" album topping the charts.



In album sales, "I Got A Boy" sold 265,322 copies in January to top the chart, followed by JYJ Jaejoong's "I" with 140,795 copies, CN Blue's "Re:BLUE" with 95,949, Infinite H's "Fly High" with 85,075, Boyfriend's "I yah" with 19,503, Big Bang's "2012 Big Bang Live Concert CD" with 18,871, "Les Miserables" official soundtrack with 14,370, MYNAME's "The 2nd Single" with 9,745, G-Dragon's "One of a Kind" with 8,035 and EXO-K's "MAMA The 1st Mini Album" with 7,469.



In the monthly digital singles chart, "I Got A Boy" is also No. 1 with 97.70 million accumulated points, followed by Jung Hyung Don's "Gangbuk Dandy," Baek Ji Young's "Hate," Bae Chigi's "Shower of Tears," CN Blue's "I'm Sorry," Verbal Jint feat. Kang Min Hee's "Good Start," Infinite H feat. Bumkey's "Special Girl," Sunny Hill's "Goodbye to Romance," Girls' Generation's "Dancing Queen" and Lee Seung Gi's "Return."



"I Got A Boy" topped Billboard's World Albums and K-pop Hot 100 charts when it was released last month. It also debuted at No. 2 on the Heatseekers Albums and No. 23 on Independent Albums.



In online downloads, "I Got A Boy" also scored the No. 1 spot with 910,253 downloads for January, followed by "Gangbuk Dandy," "Shower of Tears," "Hate," "I'm Sorry," "Good Start," Leessang feat. Eugene's "Tears," "Special Girl," Yoo Jae Suk's "Grasshopper World" and Kim Bo Kyung's "Don't Think You're Alone."



It's also the same on the streaming chart. "I Got A Boy" is No. 1 followed by "Gangbuk Dandy," "Hate," "Return," Yoseob's "Caffeine," "Goodbye to Romance," "Shower of Tears," "Dancing Queen," Geeks feat. Soyou's "Officially Missing You" and "Good Start."



On Japan's Oricon chart, TVXQ's "Catch Me-If You Wanna" sold 150,472 copies to place fourth on the monthly singles chart for January. Super Junior-KRY's "Promise You" sold 72,855 to place seventh on the chart.



"Catch Me-If You Wanna" was certified gold for the month of January by the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ) for selling at least 100,000 copies.

Tiffany recently held a photo shoot with Levi's jeans.



For the photo shoot, they visited the city streets that were filled with bright colors, portraying the trendy image for women in their 20s.



Tiffany wore a short jean dress and matched it with a violet sweater and a navy hat.

“Nation’s First Love” Suzy came out on top as the CF Queen of the year 2012 with 15 endorsement deals. Although the starlet had to reckon with Girls’ Generation and their “Group Brand Power,” Suzy was able to hold out on her own with an impressive line of contracts.




It was reported that Suzy’s brand image strength can be traced to her “Anti fan-less Bright Image.” She first earned the nickname of “Nation’s First Love” from her role in “Architecture 101.” And through her various accomplishments, she has entered the hearts of many viewers.



A popular trending post on online forums titled “Suzy’s Day” compiles most of the brands that Suzy has modeled or currently models for. It goes along the lines of “Once Suzy wake up she sips her ‘Denmark Drinking Yogurt’ and then washes her face. Then she puts on her ‘TN skin lotion’ before she changes into her ‘Smart Uniform.’ Then she puts on her ‘Reebok’ shoes and takes her ‘BeanPole Outdoor’ bag to school. For individual rankings, Girls’ Generation’s YoonA and Jessica tied for second place with 13 brands, in third was Girls’ Generation’s Tiffany with 12 brands and tied for fourth was Girls’ Generation’s Sooyoung and Seohyun with 11 brands.



However, when it came to girl group rankings, Girls’ Generation came out on top with a whopping total of 21 brands they modeled for. Industry insiders say that the brand power the group can be attributed to Girls’ Generation’s “individual but whole” quality that sets them apart. In second place was miss A, whose CF endorsements can be mainly attributed to Suzy with 16 brands. In third place was SISTAR with 14 brands, boasting a “healthy and sexy” image whereas the groups in the top two spots boast “Innocent and sweet” images. SISTAR is frequently referred to as the “Nation’s Sexy Female Idol Group.” In fourth place came KARA with ten brands and in fifth place came 2NE1 with nine brands.




The chart below also shows the amount of profit earned by the following girl groups in the order of their ranking: Girls’ Generation – 156,000,000 Won, miss A – 80,000,000 Won, SISTAR – 70,000,000 Won, KARA – 40,000,00 Won and 2NE1 – 54,000,000 Won.
